From August 8th to 9th, 2024, SARVAM, Puducherry, in collaboration with Aravind Eye Hospital, conducted a significant eye camp aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable elderly individuals. Fifty participants, all over the age of 60, were screened for eye diseases, resulting in 39 being selected for cataract surgery. This initiative, supported by CPCL, highlights SARVAM’s ongoing commitment to reducing preventable blindness and fostering a culture of proactive health care.
The surgeries not only restored vision but also significantly improved the quality of life for these individuals, enabling them to regain independence in daily activities. The atmosphere post-surgery was filled with joy and relief as patients and their families celebrated the restoration of their sight. SARVAM volunteers provided continuous care throughout the process, ensuring that all patients received timely food, tea, snacks, and essential medications.
The eye camp underscores the importance of addressing vulnerabilities within communities, promoting a more equitable society. SARVAM’s comprehensive approach extended beyond the surgeries, providing transportation and post-operative care to ensure a smooth recovery. The success of this initiative is a testament to the positive impact of targeted support on vulnerable populations, empowering them to lead more fulfilling lives.
