Recreational Program for Vulnerable Elderly Women: A Day of Joy and Social Connection

Date: 25-Sep-2024

Location: 14 villages

On 25th September 2024, SARVAM, in association with CPCL, organised a successful recreational programme for over 225 of the most vulnerable elderly women, the majority of whom are widows. This event took place across 14 villages in Puducherry and aimed to foster social interaction, bring joy, and create a supportive environment for the participants, many of whom face daily struggles such as loneliness, health issues, and poverty.

The elderly women were divided into seven groups, with each group engaging in a variety of activities that included fun games, skill challenges, and singing sessions. For those able to participate in physical activities, outdoor games provided opportunities for exercise and engagement. The day was designed not only for enjoyment but also for the women to connect with one another, helping them forget their hardships and immerse themselves in the joy of the moment.

Particular attention was given to elderly women with limited mobility. SARVAM ensured their inclusion by organising seated activities that allowed them to fully participate without physical strain. These activities were carefully tailored to promote inclusion, ensuring that no one felt left out and that all participants could enjoy the event regardless of their physical capabilities.

The highlight of the programme was the enthusiasm and active participation from all the attendees. Despite the range of activities, each group engaged wholeheartedly, creating a lively and positive atmosphere throughout the day. Many participants expressed their joy in reconnecting with their peers, sharing laughter, and embracing the chance to learn new things.

To conclude the day, SARVAM distributed food kits to all participants, addressing their nutritional needs and ensuring they returned home with both full hearts and full stomachs. The event wrapped up on a happy note, with the elderly women expressing deep gratitude and satisfaction for the day. SARVAM’s initiative not only provided much-needed recreation but also strengthened community bonds and enhanced the overall well-being of the elderly women involved.
