For the last few years Sri Aurobindo Rural & Village Action & Movement (SARVAM) is working closely with many social service organizations, establishments and clubs for the benefit of people in SARVAM project areas. Activities such as health camps, community education and awareness programmes are organized periodically for the rural populace. One of such developmental partner associations is JCI.
Junior Chamber International (JCI) is an international leadership training organization, which consists of members who are young active citizens based in different parts of the world. They work towards the betterment and sustainability of the communities in which they live. JCI celebrated their annual JCI Week from September 9 to 15, 2018, and SARVAM hosted one of their events on women empowerment at their village training centre SATYAM.
On September 12, 2018, more than 30 rural women, SARVAM coordinators and leaders attended this programme, which laid emphasis on creating opportunities, space and scope for the development of the talents of the rural women and also to identify new sectors for skill development. These trainings are very important for the women because they provide options for better livelihoods. When women learn a new skill it helps them earn an income, which then develops their confidence and builds their esteem in the eyes of their families and society.
SARVAM has made great inroads in educating and training women in the project villages to earn their livelihoods and live a life of dignity and financial autonomy. This workshop was another occasion to encourage women to be in the forefront of their community and village development. The JCI trainers were pleasantly surprised at the informed questions and profound participation of the women who attended the programme.
