SARVAM organised a meaningful and insightful training programme for volunteers on the theme Joy and Values of Giving, aimed at preparing them to guide students in cultivating a generous and compassionate outlook. The session opened with an interactive exploration of the true essence of giving, emphasising that real charity lies in offering what is genuinely needed, without expectation or desire for recognition. Volunteers reflected on how the joy of giving naturally arises when one shares from a place of gratitude, and how even small acts of kindness can create a positive impact.

The facilitators highlighted the various forms of donation—money, materials, effort, and time—explaining that generosity is not limited to financial capacity. The volunteers learnt how simple gestures such as sharing unused clothes and books, reducing unnecessary expenses to help others, or offering a portion of one’s meal can become meaningful contributions. They were also encouraged to recognise the value of giving through effort, such as maintaining public spaces, watering plants, or helping keep the surroundings clean, as acts that contribute to collective wellbeing. Similarly, spending quality time with those who feel lonely or require support was presented as an important form of time donation, nurturing empathy and human connection.

A significant part of the training focused on cultivating the right attitude while giving—offering help quietly, with humility and sincerity, without seeking praise. To deepen their understanding, the volunteers participated in chart-making, role play, and group discussions, which helped them express their ideas creatively and exchange experiences. These activities reinforced the message that giving is a daily practice rooted in awareness, kindness, and responsibility toward the community. The session concluded with volunteers expressing their commitment to share these insights with the children in their villages, thereby helping nurture a culture of joyful and value-based giving in the younger generation.
