Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Training

Date: 13-Oct-2026

Location: Satyam Community Centre

On 13 October 2026, SARVAM, Puducherry, organised a training programme on financial literacy and entrepreneurship at Satyam Community Centre. The programme benefited over 105 aspiring women entrepreneurs from 15 villages, who participated in three batches. The initiative aimed to strengthen their financial management skills, enhance their entrepreneurial knowledge, and build their confidence to establish and grow businesses, enabling them to develop sustainable livelihoods and achieve greater financial independence.

The training was conducted by expert trainers and provided the participants with practical insights into financial management and entrepreneurship. The session began with self-introductions, giving the women an opportunity to share information about themselves and engage with the trainers. The trainers explained the fundamentals of financial literacy, including income management, expenditure tracking, savings, and debt management. They also offered valuable guidance on increasing income, generating profits, saving money wisely, and applying sound financial practices to build and sustain a successful business.

Using engaging stories and practical examples, the trainers demonstrated how ordinary individuals could become successful entrepreneurs through proper planning, determination, and hard work. Particular emphasis was placed on women’s financial empowerment and effective household financial management. The participants learned the importance of cultivating regular savings habits, managing household expenses, reducing debt, building an emergency fund, and distinguishing between essential needs and discretionary or luxury expenses. These insights were intended to help them make informed financial decisions for their families and businesses.

Another important component of the training focused on financial security and risk management. The trainers explained the importance of maintaining emergency funds, obtaining appropriate health and life insurance, and safeguarding important documents. Digital financial safety was also highlighted, with participants advised never to share their passwords or one-time passwords (OTPs) with others. These measures were presented as essential practices for protecting personal finances and reducing exposure to financial risks.

The programme also introduced the participants to the “10,000” framework, which covered five key elements: capital, knowledge, risk management, strategy, and psychology. This framework helped them understand the different considerations involved in starting and sustaining a business, highlighting the importance of financial resources, relevant knowledge, informed decision-making, strategic planning, and the right entrepreneurial mindset.

Overall, the financial literacy and entrepreneurship training was a valuable learning experience that encouraged the participants to strengthen their financial knowledge, develop sound money-management habits, and pursue entrepreneurial opportunities with greater confidence. By equipping women with practical financial skills and essential business knowledge, the programme sought to promote self-reliance, support successful enterprise development, strengthen families, and contribute to a more financially secure future for women and their communities.
