A training programme titled “Developing Business Leaders” was conducted in Chennai with the objective of strengthening women’s entrepreneurship and supporting women from diverse sectors to improve and grow their businesses. The programme also enhanced SARVAM staff members’ understanding of women’s entrepreneurship and practical approaches that can help rural women develop and sustain businesses, even on a small scale.
The programme brought together entrepreneurs from different sectors, creating an opportunity for participants to learn from one another, exchange experiences, and explore practical approaches to business development. Through interactive sessions, discussions and question-and-answer sessions, participants gained new knowledge, ideas and insights that could be applied in supporting women entrepreneurs in their respective villages.
SARVAM staff members participated in the programme as Trainers of Trainers (ToT). Their participation provided valuable exposure to different business models, entrepreneurial experiences and strategies that could be adapted and shared with women entrepreneurs in their respective villages. The interactions also helped the staff understand different approaches to developing and expanding small businesses.
A key focus of the training was on how rural women can develop their businesses even with limited resources. The trainer emphasised that business growth can begin with small, practical steps, such as identifying available resources, understanding customer needs, improving products or services, and gradually expanding business activities. This approach was particularly relevant for rural women who may have limited resources but have the potential to develop their businesses successfully.
The interactive nature of the programme encouraged participants to clarify their doubts and deepen their understanding of various aspects of entrepreneurship. The presence of entrepreneurs from different sectors made the sessions practical and engaging, allowing participants to share their experiences, learn from different business approaches, and gain useful ideas for improving and expanding their own businesses.
