With the support of TCSF, SARVAM conducted a seven-day skill development training programme on Tailoring for women from 15 villages, held at the Satyam Community Centre. The programme was designed to equip women with practical tailoring skills that can support self-employment, home-based livelihood activities, and supplementary family income — opening doors to greater economic independence and confidence.
The training was structured around clear, achievable objectives: developing basic and practical tailoring skills, familiarising participants with sewing machines, tools, and materials, building confidence in stitching and garment-making, and enabling women to undertake tailoring work independently from their homes. A key focus was also placed on creating awareness of income generation possibilities and encouraging women to consider small-scale entrepreneurship as a viable path forward.
The programme was delivered by trained trainers through a well-rounded methodology combining classroom explanations, step-by-step demonstrations, hands-on practice, and personalised guidance. Participants were encouraged to practise each technique themselves, with trainers providing continuous support and corrections throughout the seven days. This approach ensured that every participant gained both technical proficiency and the confidence to apply her skills independently.
By the end of the programme, participants had gained meaningful practical exposure in operating sewing machines and carrying out basic tailoring activities. The skills acquired can be further developed into home-based tailoring services, small enterprises, or supplementary livelihood opportunities — giving women from 15 villages a tangible tool for self-reliance and sustainable income generation. The training thus laid a strong foundation for vocational growth and economic empowerment among rural women.
