Inauguration of Sarvam SHG’s micro food processing unit at Poothurai village to produce affordable, nutritious food was inaugurated by the Chairman of Vanur block on September 2, 2022. The Panchayat president, Panchayat officials, ward members, and SHG women were among the few who graciously felicitated the inaugural function.
SARVAM initiated the nutrition project in the project villages in association with Auro Centre for Public Nutrition ACPN and Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
The main ideas of the project are
Knowledge and training to women self-help group on the preparation of affordable, nutritious energy food. This food is prepared from locally available agricultural produce, such as ragi, green gram, soya beans, and wheat. This food can be consumed by the whole community comprising of the children, adolescents, adults and the elderly.
This platform will also be used for providing women with information about the basic general principles of a proper child, adolescent and maternal health and nutrition care and the importance of hygiene, sanitation and safe drinking water for proper health and improvement of nutritional status.
In addition, for setting up a micro food processing unit at the community level to produce affordable, nutritious food by the Self Help Group.
The unit has set up the machinery to begin the process. Trial production was done and sent to a nutrition analysis, which yielded good results. Following that, FSSAI registration was completed. After completing all the formalities, the unit was inaugurated.
The village panchayat officials and SHG women have pledged that creating sanitation and nutrition awareness among the village population is their foremost goal.
The village people are very excited to have this service in their village.
