On the occasion of International Yoga Day, SARVAM organised a special Yoga Training and Awareness Programme at the Satyam Community Centre, bringing together 200 women and elderly participants from 15 villages. The programme aimed to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and healthy living through the practice of yoga, while encouraging participants to adopt habits that support long-term health and active ageing.
The sessions were conducted by four experienced yoga trainers who guided participants through a series of yoga postures, breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness practices. The trainers provided clear demonstrations and personalised guidance, ensuring that all participants could practise comfortably and safely according to their individual abilities and health conditions.

The programme focused on creating awareness about the holistic benefits of yoga and its role in enhancing physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Participants were introduced to simple yoga postures designed to improve flexibility, balance, strength, and overall fitness. Special emphasis was placed on pranayama, or yogic breathing exercises, which help reduce stress, improve concentration, and support emotional stability. Relaxation and meditation techniques were also demonstrated, enabling participants to experience greater calmness, mental clarity, and inner balance.
Recognising the unique needs of elderly participants, the trainers incorporated yoga practices that were gentle, accessible, and suitable for older adults. The sessions highlighted how regular yoga practice can contribute to healthy ageing by improving mobility, reducing stress, enhancing vitality, and supporting overall quality of life. Participants were encouraged to integrate these simple practices into their daily routines to maintain long-term health and well-being.

The women and elderly participants enthusiastically engaged in the programme and actively participated in all activities. Many appreciated the practical nature of the training and expressed confidence in continuing the exercises at home. The programme provided an enjoyable and enriching experience while reinforcing the importance of self-care, preventive health, and healthy lifestyle choices.
As an outcome, the programme significantly enhanced participants’ understanding of yoga and its benefits for healthy living. It inspired many to adopt yoga as a regular practice and strengthened awareness about the importance of physical activity, mental wellness, and active ageing. The event successfully fostered a spirit of health, positivity, and community well-being, leaving participants motivated to continue their journey towards a healthier and more balanced life.
