On 28th April 2025, SARVAM conducted a one-day Training of Trainers (ToT) programme at the Satyam Community Centre in Puducherry, aimed at equipping its dedicated volunteers with skills in craft-based learning for children. The programme was designed to highlight the vital role that craft activities play in fostering creativity, cognitive growth, and emotional well-being in young learners. Recognising that children form the cornerstone of SARVAM’s development efforts, the initiative was intended to build the capacities of volunteers who regularly engage with them.
The session began with an insightful overview led by an experienced trainer who discussed the multiple benefits of incorporating crafts into education. Emphasis was placed on how such activities enhance fine motor skills, spark creativity, and support self-expression in children, making them an ideal complement to traditional academics. The theoretical portion was followed by practical, hands-
on activities where volunteers created simple decorative crafts such as wall hangings, using easily available materials. These exercises demonstrated not only the accessibility of craft activities but also their potential to stimulate learning and joy among children.
Volunteers responded with great enthusiasm, actively participating in the exercises and expressing a strong commitment to incorporating these creative practices into their regular teaching routines. They affirmed their intention to replicate the activities with children in their respective villages, thereby contributing to the holistic development of the young minds they serve.
