SARVAM successfully organised a special value-education programme on Respecting Elders for children on 25 January 2026 across its project villages. The programme reached nearly 300 children and was designed to nurture values of respect, care, and responsibility towards elders within families and the wider community. The initiative emphasised that elders are invaluable sources of wisdom, experience, and cultural continuity, and that caring for them is both a moral duty and a social responsibility.

The session began with an interactive explanation highlighting the role of elders in preserving traditions, guiding younger generations, and strengthening family and social bonds. Children were encouraged to reflect on how respect for elders contributes to harmony, gratitude, and emotional security within households and communities. This foundational discussion helped set a meaningful context for the activities that followed.

To reinforce learning, engaging methods such as chart work were introduced. Children actively created and presented charts illustrating practical ways to respect and support elders in everyday life, such as listening attentively, offering help, and showing kindness. This visual and participatory approach made the concepts relatable and easy to remember.

Stories and group discussions further deepened understanding by allowing children to share thoughts, ask questions, and learn from one another’s experiences. These sessions promoted empathy, attentive listening, and positive attitudes towards elder care. The programme concluded with all participants taking a collective oath to respect, care for, and support elders, reinforcing their commitment to practice these values in daily life. Overall, the programme successfully instilled awareness and inspired children to uphold respect for elders, aligning strongly with SARVAM’s mission of value-based community development.
