Empowering Women through Yoga – An Awareness Programme

Date: 20 June 2025

Location:  Project Villages

On the occasion of International Yoga Day, SARVAM, Puducherry, organised a one-day awareness and demonstration programme across 10 project villages on 20 June 2025. The event reached 150 women, aiming to inspire them to adopt yoga as a daily practice for improved physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Each session opened with an introduction to the origins and benefits of yoga, highlighting its practical relevance in everyday life. Resource persons elaborated on how consistent yoga practice can manage stress, enhance flexibility, build inner strength, and help prevent lifestyle-related ailments that are increasingly affecting even rural populations.

Following the introduction, hands-on demonstrations were conducted where participants were guided through basic asanas, breathing exercises (pranayama), and simple meditation techniques. These sessions were specially adapted for beginners, ensuring accessibility and comfort for all participants.

The initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response. Many women shared their enthusiasm and intent to continue practising yoga beyond the session. To support this interest, SARVAM plans to facilitate regular follow-up sessions and promote the formation of local women-led yoga groups in each village.

This meaningful initiative not only spread awareness but also empowered women to take charge of their health through the holistic practice of yoga.
