On 17 December 2024, SARVAM’s PU CRS 91.2 conducted an impactful narrowcasting program titled Promoting Welfare and Accessibility for Senior Citizens at Villiyanur Hall, Pondicherry. The session was attended by 40 participants, including senior citizens, their family members, and key village representatives. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about government schemes under the AVYAY program, designed to improve the well-being and accessibility of senior citizens.
The session commenced with ice-breaking activities to create an engaging environment. Pre- and post-session questionnaires were used to gauge the participants’ understanding of the schemes. The highlight of the event was a detailed explanation of AVYAY schemes, including Health, Elderline, and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, delivered by the Director of HelpAge India, Pondicherry. Drawing on extensive experience, the Director offered practical guidance on accessing these schemes and addressing the specific concerns of senior citizens.
The PU CRS Director also elaborated on the role of the community radio station in empowering and uplifting the local population. He extended heartfelt thanks to the participants for their active involvement, which contributed to the program’s success.
Members of the Villiyanur Senior Citizens Association appreciated the session’s value, which fostered a positive approach to senior citizen welfare. Pamphlets containing detailed information about AVYAY schemes were distributed to ensure the knowledge shared reached a broader audience. Participants expressed gratitude for the insights gained and pledged to disseminate the information within their communities.
The program concluded with an interactive discussion, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in promoting senior citizens’ welfare. The event underscored the need for continued community involvement to ensure these vital schemes reach those who need them most.
