On 6th August 2025, the Family Health Advisory Programme was officially extended to Kadaperikuppam village. This health and hygiene initiative is jointly implemented by SARVAM and the Department of Preventive & Social Medicine, JIPMER. Having successfully completed two years in Poothurai Panchayat, the programme now seeks to replicate its impact in Kadaperikuppam.

As part of the launch, a team of doctors from JIPMER visited the village to understand its health landscape and initiate collaboration with the local community. They met with the village president, SARVAM coordinators, and key community members to discuss pressing health concerns, generate awareness about preventive care, and explore potential health interventions tailored to the village context.

A vital component of the visit was to define the roles and responsibilities of both SARVAM and JIPMER, laying a strong foundation for coordinated implementation. The discussions also highlighted the importance of community participation, long-term collaboration, and the sharing of resources and responsibilities for building local capacity.

The role of JIPMER in this partnership includes:

  • Verifying family willingness and cooperation before programme activities commence (led by junior and senior residents).
  • Reporting any field-level challenges to the SARVAM team.
  • Informing local PHC staff and village leaders of planned activities.

In a follow-up effort, a dedicated team of doctors and students from JIPMER visited 35 selected families. These home visits provided valuable insights into health conditions, challenges, and needs at the grassroots level. Based on their interactions, the team offered initial medical guidance and gathered data to support appropriate follow-up actions.

This engagement marked the beginning of a sustained outreach effort, with JIPMER teams planning regular visits until May 2026. The extension of this programme to Kadaperikuppam signals a continued commitment to community health, empowerment, and collective growth.
