Selection Process for State-Level Senior Women’s Athletic Competition

On December 20, 2024, SARVAM successfully conducted the selection process for the upcoming state-level elders’ athletic competition at the Satyam Community Centre in Puducherry. The competition, scheduled for the first week of January in Madurai, represents a significant opportunity for senior women athletes from the region.

The selection process was overseen by the District Head of the Elders’ Athletic Association, accompanied by a sports master. They conducted comprehensive evaluations through various tests to identify the most promising candidates from SARVAM’s project villages. From hundreds of enthusiastic participants in the Villupuram district, 50 senior women were chosen to represent their region at the state level.

This initiative builds upon the success of previous years, where local athletes have demonstrated exceptional performance. In the previous year’s competition held in Tiruvannamalai, 150 senior women represented the district, with 50 participants securing medals in fierce competition against representatives from 30 districts. This year, despite the geographical challenges posed by the competition’s location, the selection process maintained its rigorous standards.

Following their selection, the chosen athletes have begun intensive training sessions in their respective villages. The enthusiasm and dedication displayed by these 50 women during their practice sessions are truly remarkable. Their commitment not only reflects personal determination but also serves as an inspiration to the entire elderly community, promoting the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
