On 5 November 2024, SARVAM conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) session titled “Developing Emotional Intelligence for Personal Growth” at the Satyam Community Centre. This intensive session focused on equipping a dedicated group of volunteers with the essential skills to understand, manage, and effectively express emotions. The programme was designed to foster personal growth and enable participants to share these insights with broader community groups, especially among students and women who could benefit from enhanced emotional intelligence.
Throughout the session, participants engaged in a range of interactive activities, including role-playing exercises and personal storytelling, that encouraged them to explore and manage emotions in practical ways. Role-playing different emotional responses allowed volunteers to grasp how emotions manifest in various real-life situations and equipped them with tools to manage these emotions constructively. By acting out scenarios, they could gain deeper awareness of both their own and others’ emotional responses, learning methods to cope with and channel these feelings in positive ways.
Personal sharing was another integral part of the training, as participants reflected on their own emotional experiences, giving each other insights into how emotional intelligence plays a role in overcoming day-to-day challenges. Through guided group discussions, participants explored scenarios where emotional intelligence had a significant impact on outcomes, enhancing their understanding of its application in daily life. A particularly impactful exercise allowed each volunteer to write a personal emotional experience and transform it into a short role-play, fostering empathy and emotional awareness in a supportive group environment.
In addition to practical exercises, playful and engaging activities were woven into the training to reinforce the concepts in a relaxed setting. Participants responded positively to these methods, stating that the session not only provided a profound understanding of emotional intelligence but also made learning enjoyable and memorable. Many expressed that the experience had reshaped their perspective on emotions, giving them new tools to face personal and community challenges.
As a testament to the impact of the training, the volunteers committed to applying and spreading the knowledge gained within their communities, particularly among young students and women. By integrating emotional intelligence skills, they aim to cultivate emotional resilience, better coping mechanisms, and a supportive environment within their local communities. This ToT session was a vital step in enhancing personal growth and community well-being, reinforcing SARVAM’s mission to foster positive behaviour and emotional growth across society.
