In collaboration with CPCL, SARVAM has initiated the “Empowering the Rural Communities” programme for the year 2024-2025 in 30 villages of Vanur taluk, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu.
During that initiation, SARVAM held an entrepreneurial workshop for women.
SARVAM always focuses on the empowerment of rural women and conducts regular upskilling programmes for women entrepreneurs, ensuring that the women entrepreneurs are empowered and their businesses are sustainable.
SARVAM conducted a tailoring upskilling workshop to provide upskilling knowledge and sessions for women tailors from different villages to help them gain formal training in upgrading their existing skills. Formal training for these women is important because it equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to enhance their craftsmanship and techniques. This allows them to improve the quality of their work, stay updated with the latest industry trends, and increase their employability skills. Formal training also helps tailors develop a professional attitude and approach to their work, leading to increased customer satisfaction and business growth.
The workshop helped to showcase their talents and skills of sewing and embroidering fabrics with the new Usha Allure DLX Electric Sewing Machine and the modern sewing machine comes with practical features like automatic needle threading, LED type sewing light, face plate thread cutter, and feed drop lever that facilitates simple and complex embroidery.
The trainer explained about The Usha Allure DLX Electric Sewing Machine which offers the triple strength stitch capability and the 13 built in stitches including stitching the button hole as well.
They are being trained to take measurements in a formal way, draw patterns, keep up with the latest developments in the fashion industry and garment trade, and have the know-how to benefit their customers through the change in processes they employ on a daily basis.
After finishing the session, Ms. Mangai Lakshmi, a tailoring woman, expressed her increased confidence in her ability to stitch clothes. She continued by saying that the majority of them had no formal training in tailoring and were forced to take on this work due to circumstances and other opportunities. Having completed this workshop, they now have a greater understanding of fashion, style consulting, handling challenges, customer behaviour, advancements in stitching patterns, modernization, etc. She expressed her increased confidence and readiness to expand her tailoring business.
Participants’ feedback indicated their satisfaction with this workshop, and they requested that there be more such sessions in the future.
