Empowering Women through Sustainable Livelihood Activities

On 31 July 2024, SARVAM organised an impactful visit for women entrepreneurs to Uruvaiyaru, Puducherry, aimed at exposing them to sustainable livelihood activities. This initiative not only empowers women with valuable skills but also fosters economic growth within the community. By adopting sustainable practices, these entrepreneurs can create lasting change and inspire future generations, leading to a more resilient and self-sufficient local economy.

The first stop was the incense making unit, where the women learned the intricacies of operating the machines and using the ingredients. This hands-on experience significantly boosted their confidence, making them feel more empowered and capable of handling the production process independently. Their newfound ability to troubleshoot issues and improve efficiency further solidified their competence.

Next, the group visited the vermicomposting unit. Here, they learned about the numerous benefits of this sustainable practice. The trainer explained that vermicomposting uses worms to break down organic waste, producing nutrient-rich compost that enhances soil quality. Additionally, it helps reduce landfill waste and promotes environmentally friendly farming techniques.
