Volunteers trained to conduct summer camps

Date: 02-May-2023

Location: Satyam Community Centre, Poothurai

Around 15 volunteers were trained at the Satyam Community Centre for the upcoming summer camp conducted for the students.

As usual, SARVAM is planning to conduct its 14th annual summer camp this year.  Around 300 students from the 12 villages where SARVAM plays an active role are expected to participate.  Each year, the summer camp focuses on interactive activities through which students’ confidence can be increased.  The camp will also allow the children to explore their creativity and develop new skills.  Yoga and community service are also a part of these summer camps.  The staff and volunteers properly assist, support, and guide the children.

For this year’s summer camp to run smoothly, the staff and volunteers were trained for two days.  The training was given on choosing the right location, making the necessary arrangements, and focusing on the correct activities for the students.  These activities included art, yoga, soft skills, computer skills, theatre, sports, etc.

The two-day training focused on teaching the volunteers essential leadership skills, such as communication, problem-solving, and team building.  The volunteers will then apply these skills at the summer camp by providing guidance and support to the students.

During the training, they were divided into smaller groups.  They were asked to do practical activities, enabling them to gain valuable experience to help run the camps successfully.  Each group was responsible for setting up their camp, from selecting the right places for the activities.  They were required to take turns managing the camps, which allowed them to gain leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.  They also learned to work together to ensure the camp’s success.

Those who attended the training said it was instrumental and gave them great confidence to handle the upcoming summer camp.
